Fans Urge Arrest of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the actress are calling for that a person who leaped a fence and touched the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside photographers and rushing toward Grande while the actors walked down a promenade accompanied by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the event by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though court documents revealed that he was scheduled to attend court on the following morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a performance. His Instagram account includes clips of him disturbing other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney performance in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last December.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user remarked.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Well-being
Numerous supporters criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented another message on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised guards at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while others requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In footage spreading on the internet, Grande seemed shocked when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be premiered on 21 November, is the second of a two-film adaptation of the well-known theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected friendship between two distinct characters.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored a dozen Oscar nominations, winning two for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
