It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are what's still available for a side that has achieved everything.

It needed up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, taking back their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It's challenging for their hitters to maintain a record if not provided the chance.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was captain Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to produce her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her debut and seven global championships have come from 10 tries across formats.

The gritty keeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "drove us to rethink our standards," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not fail again.

If this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Certain people claim the case for the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this ton was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this performance came after six matches in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it has been a disappointing period because it seemed my form was missing whatsoever," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive instincts kick in and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and after that the right-hander was in motion.

"An opportunity to play and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun that way, somewhat inspired me," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at a World Cup - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

Once she was dismissed the team needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I'm happy we have the belief to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if necessary, we believe we can succeed."

Those words will be the final thing competing nations at this tournament need to hear.

During the last week a sense they will win from any position has become more firm - this victory succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she subsequently stated she wished she had played with the discomfort.

But while she afterwards confessed those injuries have delayed plans to retire, this championship is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as captain.
