The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
