The Renowned Musician Encourages Backing to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project seeks to send support to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded following a solidarity show held in late summer. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the performance was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The diverse array of performers featured on Lullaby encompasses a range of well-known figures from the industry. All were part of the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of talented individuals. The song blends a mix of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The team running the initiative have clarified that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These resources will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a representative explained. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Naturally, the more the merrier. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the region was characterized as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of property reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a handful of millions is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a digital service from the 19th of December.
